According to APK-Inform news agency, according to the results of the first half of 2020/21 MY, Russia exported about 2 million MT of barley to Saudi Arabia, which is 2.1 times higher than grain shipments for the same period of the 2019/20 season (929.2 thousand MT) and exceeds the total of the previous MY (1.8 million MT) by 11%.
According to USDA estimates, Saudi Arabia's barley purchases in the current season may amount to 7.2 million MT, which is 6% more than in the previous season (6.8 million MT). Thus, in the period from July to December 2020, Saudi Arabia provided 27% of the forecast imports due to Russian barley.
It should be noted that, according to analysts of APK-Inform news agency, the export potential of barley in Russia in 2020/21 MY may amount to 4.5 million MT and by the end of the first half of the season it has already been realized by 84%.
